Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)

What is SASE?

SASE refers to a security framework that combines all network security services with software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) and delivers them in the form of a single cloud service. With SASE, organizations do not need to use several security controls, thereby eliminating the overhead of maintaining these services separately. SASE effectively addresses all the challenges of digital transformation that organizations face while migrating to the cloud through the convergence of networking and network security services.

How Can SASE Benefit Organizations?

By adopting SASE, organizations can get the following benefits:

  • Agility:  SASE helps organizations create new digital business scenarios (e.g., APIs, apps, and services) and share data securely with their partners and contractors with reduced risk.
  • Reduced costs and complexity: As SASE provides all security technologies in the form of Network Security-as-a-Service from a single vendor, it eliminates the complexity and costs of using multiple security technologies from different vendors.
  • Better performance: With SASE, organizations can improve their performance via latency-optimized routing. Using the cloud enables users to securely connect to corporate networks from any part of the world without compromising on performance.
  • Simple to use: Since SASE requires fewer agents per device, it significantly helps security teams reduce the operational overhead of managing multiple security products.
  • Zero trust access: SASE provides network access based on the identity of users, apps, and devices rather than their physical location or IP address and offers complete session protection. Users are assigned the least privileges to avoid any privilege escalation. This ensures complete protection without considering the location from where the user is connecting to corporate networks.
  • Threat prevention & data protection: SASE provides full control and visibility into corporate networks, which helps in threat prevention and data protection. Organizations can implement data protection policies using a SASE framework to protect sensitive data from being misused.

SASE Use Case for Education Industry

In the present times, most education institutions are offering online classes to their students. Students and teachers use various services from different vendors for virtual classes, online service portals, chatting, and collaboration. The use of multiple technologies makes it hard to effectively manage networking and security services.

SASE helps education institutions to achieve their goals in the following ways:

  • Supports secure tutoring, on-demand online classes, and personalized teaching.
  • Enables online learning using virtual reality and augmented reality.
  • Assigns analytics and repetitive work to chat bots, enabling teaching staff to pay more attention to students.
